ARLT Reading Competition

In the Classics Department, we were excited to participate for the first time in the annual ARLT Reading Competition. This challenged students to record themselves reading a passage of prose or verse Latin aloud with correct pronunciation and appropriate emotion and emphasis. For Year 9 students, this meant reading a Latin story from the Suburani textbook, about a slave woman who was worried about being sold to a new owner, and Year 10 students read a passage from the Aeneid, where the Trojans face a terrifying storm at sea.

Speaking Latin is a challenging task for students to do, and we were thoroughly impressed with the excellent recordings we were sent by students across both year groups. The following students who submitted incredible performances, will receive 10 house points each: Adeeb (9B), William (9B), Aneeish (9B), Pranav (9G), Ishan (9G), Zach (9B), Yi Cong (9G), Titus (9S), Krish (9B) and Arun (9B).

We had the difficult job of choosing three Year 9 students and two Year 10 students to represent the school. After much discussion, we chose Adrij (9C), Richy (9B) and Samuel (9G) for Year 9, and Mikhail (10D) and Balahari (10G) for Year 10. Their pronunciation was brilliant, as well as giving the story a real feel of the emotions of the different characters. They have also received 30 house points.

The Classics department is so proud of all our students who took part by recording themselves. Congratulations to the students who will now go on to represent the school!
