Battle of the Bands 2024

Battle of the Bands 2024

Last month, Wilson’s School presented the third annual Battle of the Bands in the JJ Hall! It was one excellent night of music making, competition, collaboration, and dancing, as well as many hours of sweat, tears, printing, broken strings, and equipment sharing from all competitors (and even some staff!).

Executive Action were the winners of the senior category with their flashy and tight performance of ‘Footloose’ (Kenny Loggins), their front man Evan stole the show with his energetic vocals and bass playing whilst the whole band bounced around the stage unleashing their inner Kevin Bacon. Greencoat Conquerors took the (metaphorical) medal home for the Juniors with their high-octane version of ‘The Spectre’ (Alan Walker) which was arranged for the band by their Keys player Tobias – the crowd showed their appreciation by enthusiastically clapping along, and in time – well done boys.

All performances were excellent (the esteemed panel of teacher judges really had their work cut out for them), but in the end decisions were made. Runners up were Minority +1 for the juniors with their rendition of ‘From the Start’ (Laufey), and Feind for the seniors with an excellent event finisher ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ (Oasis), highly commended given to ‘Censor*d’ (Schism by Tool) and ‘Amalgam’ (Hotel California by The Eagles).

Mr Kramer would like to thank all the performers, friends and family in the audience, teachers and senior leaders who supported the event, and a special mention to the sixth form event team made this event happen: Sean, Asad and Michael (Front of House), Philip and Namish (Backstage Crew), Euan (Lighting), Ilyas (Sound) and Tai (Photography).
