Wilson's School

Football gets off the ground!

Visitors to the school in August will have observed that the football season gets underway very promptly at Wilson's! Our new Year 7s experienced life on the Mollison Drive pitches for the first time, while the 1st XI's exciting summer program continued with games against Old Wilsonian’s, Teknika Football Academy, Kinetic Football Academy, Royal Russell and Epsom College. There were some fantastic individual and team performances, but more importantly great fun was had playing football in the sun!

Our exciting new Year 7 footballers also had an opportunity to play their first fixture against Energise FC. They were coached by an Old Wilsonian, Jude Boateng, and supported by lots of parents; it was great to see the pupils meet each other, and to witness the start of so many new friendships. And with some great football played as well!

Player of the Week

Zeph (Year 12) was really impressive for the 1st XI against Whitgift. He fought off Whitgift’s attack while showing his customary composure. Omer (Year 7) had a debut to remember with a stunning hattrick for the U12B’s. Hudson (Year 7) went one better with a four goal blast in his first game. But it is not all about scoring goals and Sameer (Year 8) was a rock at the back for the U13B’s to help them gain a clean sheet. Jaemin (Year 13) was outstanding at left back for the 1st XI while goal machine Asa (1st XI) scored another hattrick. Player of the week is Nilin (Year 9) who was another hattrick hero, one of these goals a stunning free kick into the top corner.

Team of the Week

It was a fantastic first Saturday with 13 wins out of 15. What a great effort by pupils and staff to get all the games on after just two days back in school! Our year 7s all registered their first wins of the season to show the future is bright. A-D teams all won away at Alleyn’s but also showed fantastic sportsmanship, which resulted in a happy and  memorable morning of school football.

With so many good displays several teams deserve Team of the Week. But for their very first game, against a good side, the U12Cs are our first team of the week for 2024!
