Football Update #11
Player of the Week
In his new role at centre forward, Arjun (Year 13) continues to find the net. Another classy finish versus St John’s makes it four goals in four games for the 1st XI. True to the school motto - Non Sibi Sed Omnibus - 4th XI players Jeremy (Year 12), Luca (Year 12), Ryan (Year 13) and Pavamaan (Year 12) all stepped up to play for the 2nd XI, and inspired them to their first win of the season. 2nd XI Captain Diyath (Year 13) continues to lead by example - so far, in a tough season results-wise, he continues to give nothing but his best for his team.
Player of the Week is U12A Captain Tommy (Year 7), who was inspirational in motivating the team in terrible weather conditions against Royal Russell.
Team of the Week
The 1st XI’s good form continued with a mature performance in a 3-1 win over St John’s in the Surrey League. The U13As and 4th XI faced two touring teams from Australia in two fantastic football matches. It ended with one win each, but more importantly it was great to see all pupils have fun and get on so well with each other. The U12As and U12Cs did the school proud in showing resilience during awful weather in their fine wins on Saturday.
Team of the Week is the 2nd XI who got their first win of the season, beating St George’s away 4-2.
Match Report
Wilson's U13As 3 VS 1 Australian Wanderers
The U13A football team were lucky enough to play a touring team from Australia earlier this month. Our squad hoped to add another win to the tally, but were well aware of the challenge ahead.
Both teams were showing desire to take the game by the scruff of the neck from the start. Jessie played a crucial role in the attack, continuously driving along the left flank. The Wilson’s defence was also at its best, with Sid and Pratyush holding up the back with some pivotal tackles.
Finally, the deadlock was broken with Aron playing a beautiful incisive pass slicing their defence to myself who played a cross into Kiaan who slotted it into the back of the net. It was soon to be 2-0, with Sid placing the ball into the goal from a corner.
However, the Wanderers were unwilling to go down so easily. After an elegant trivela through ball by their centre midfielder to their right winger, he played an amazing whipped cross to their striker who headed it powerfully into the back of the net.
Wilson’s used this as a wake-up call and Kiaan soon scored his second goal of the match, using his strength to out-muscle their centre back.
After the game, our new friends from Australia awarded Kiaan Man of the Match and gave him a shirt to take home. Both teams then met in the McAlister Room for food and a pleasant conversation, bringing a delightful end to the afternoon.
