Football Update #13
Player Of The Week
One of the 1st XI’s most consistent performers this season has been Zohair (Year 13) and again he was fantastic against the Leavers. He produced an all-action display, winning tackles and driving the team forward. The U13As lethal front three continue to cause nightmares for opposition defences with Maz, Kiaan and Jesse (Year 8) again excellent versus Whitgift. This week’s players of the week are three U12As - Leo, Edward and Ethan (Year 7) who all showed incredible commitment to train alongside the 1st XI on Saturday morning in circuit training.
Team Of The Week
Unfortunately, the weather had an impact in our first week back with few games being played. It was great to see a team of recent Leavers at school playing in an entertaining 2-2 draw with the 1st XI. Ellis and Clint (Old Wilsonians | 2021 Leavers) were outstanding for the Leavers team and clearly have not lost it! It was left to Nana (Year 11) and a late Zeph (Year 12) goal to rescue a draw for the 1st XI.
Match Report
Wilson’s U12As 6 vs 2 Wimbledon College
On the back of a very successful string of games for the U12As, our squad faced a cup game against Wimbledon College, as our consistency and ability as a team proved once again in our 6-2 triumph in the County Cup.
Our attacking display with our convincing win in the cup was brilliant, compared to a couple undeserved cup losses prior to this.
In the first half, there were opportunities for either team to grab a goal. Wilson’s had many chances, but we were not scoring. The first goal lay right before half time with Ali’s brilliant strike into the top left corner sending us into the lead at the break.
In the second half, the pattern of our team’s second half onslaughts began. The whole team from Sid to Jad were outstanding, moving the ball, and winning tackles. Our hard work in the game finally rewarded us as we had a series of five goals, as Wimbledon managed to put two past us.
Amongst the team, Jad’s individual performance stood out as he managed to score a hat-trick, his goals from his individual ability but also our team’s effort.
After the score reached 3-1, our successful strategy of managing the game and finding our wingers out wide proved successful. The flurry of goals continued with two late goals from super-subs Will and Leo.
Special mention to MOTM Tommy, showing his tremendous commitment and his wise array of passing.
A day to revel for Wilson’s, final score being 6-2 as we progress through to the next round of the cup.
