      Player of the Week

Rishi (Year 11) with a cool finish grabbed his first 1st XI goal in their win over Glyn. Wednesday after school Arjun (Year 7) had a moment to remember in the yellow and black with an injury time winning goal for the U12Bs against Trinity. The U13As front three consisting of Max, Jesse and Kiaan (all Year 8) were a constant threat for the Epsom defence. Player of the week is U14As playmaker Akin (Year 9) who starred gain in their fine national cup win.

      Team Of The Week

The U13Bs went goal crazy against ACS Cobham with an emphatic win, a very good team display with intense pressing as a team. There were good victories for the 1st XI, 4th XI, U13As, and U12Bs in midweek. Team of the week are the U14As who produced two scintillating displays. First, they beat Epsom College away 3-2 and then produced an even better performance beating Ashcombe 5-0 in the National Cup. The squad has had a great start to the season, winning eight out of their ten games.

      Match Report

      Wilson’s U12As 2-1 Epsom College | Tuesday 1 October 2024

It was the type of day that only ducks and amphibians would want to be anywhere other than inside. Unrelenting rain pummelled down in torrents as we arrived at Epsom College.

Fortunately for Wilson’s U12As the dreary weather did not dampen spirits, and the first half began with fluid play. The first goal was slotted past the keeper by Jad and clean play continued, with Wilson’s holding the 1-0 advantage until half-time, ably supported by Leo in goal.

Epsom came back fighting for the second half and Wilson’s started to lose control of the game. However, the opposition’s confidence was further boosted when the referee awarded a free kick, which resulted in a powerful top of the net placement, bringing the score even. Digging deep, Wilson’s kept their heads in the game – with Leo now outfield and Will in goal.

Battling an increasingly confident opponent on a small, narrow pitch that became more swamp than grass, Wilson’s held their ground, winning a penalty in the closing moments. The penalty was taken by Tommy, who confidently scored. But in a dramatic twist of events, the goal was disallowed by the ref on the grounds of encroachment. Unruffled, Tommy went back to his mark with composure, showing his experience and class as he got the job done a second time, putting Wilson’s back in the lead.

Epsom weren’t ready to roll over just yet though, and a dangerously close attempt was blocked by a remarkable goal-line clearance from Tommy, with the whistle blown to finalise a soggy but victorious 2-1 win for Wilson’s. Mr Wells’ Man of the Match was well deserved by Leo and Will, who played strong games both in goal and outfield throughout the game (all players in Year 7).
