Football Update #8
Player of the Week
The two goalkeepers to shine this week were Ved (Year 11) for the 1st XI and Cecil (Year 9) for the U14As, both making key saves and showcasing their cat-like reflexes. Another game for Omer (Year 7) and another hat-trick, his fifth of the season against Carshalton and he followed that up with a stunning strike against Whitgift. A match-winning effort by Thomas (Year 8) led the U13Cs to a famous away win. Another pupil to inspire their team to a win was Raiyan (Year 9), he was everywhere going forward as the U12Ds won with the onlooking Whitgift flamingos next door. Player of the Week is Ali (Year 7) who was outstanding in both games for the U12As - he has become a lynch-pin at the back repelling all attacks.
Team of the Week
It was a fantastic day of school football on Saturday, with eighteen games against Whitgift and over two hundred and fifty pupils representing the school. As always, the pupils didn’t disappoint representing the school with great pride and sportsmanship. Wilson’s won the day with eight wins, four draws and six defeats, featuring some stunning displays. The U13Cs and U14Ds had brilliant away wins to kickstart the day, and that good work was then carried on by the U14As, U14Cs and U13As who all recorded commanding wins. The U15As also worked hard and got their reward with a promising 1-1 draw away. Team of the Week are the U12As who beat the always-competitive Carshalton 4-3 on Friday, and followed this result up with a spectacular performance against an academy-filled Whitgift side.
Match Report
Wilson’s U12Bs 1 vs 1 Carshalton Boys Sports College | Friday 15 November 2024
On 15 November, Wilson’s U12Bs took to the pitch against Carshalton Boys Sports College U12B in a thrilling encounter. While the squad hoped to extend their unbeaten streak with another win, they were aware of the challenge ahead. The game ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw, with moments of brilliance and grit from both sides.
From the opening whistle, it was clear that this would be no easy contest. Carshalton came out strong, and the match quickly became a physical battle, with fierce challenges and midfield duels dominating the first half. Despite several promising moves and creative play from Wilson’s, Carshalton’s defence stood firm, and neither side managed to find a breakthrough before the interval.
The second half saw a rise in intensity as Wilson’s pushed forward in search of the opening goal. Their persistence paid off when Daniel produced a moment of magic. Positioned just outside the box on the right, he unleashed a perfectly placed shot into the bottom-left corner, giving Wilson’s the lead and sparking celebrations among the team.
However, Carshalton were not willing to back down. As the game wore on, they pressed hard for an equaliser and found it late in the match, capitalising on Wilson's only moment of defensive disorganisation in the game to level the score. Despite a late surge from Wilson’s to reclaim the lead, the final whistle blew with the score locked at 1-1.
While the team was disappointed not to secure the win, they took pride in extending their unbeaten streak. Every player battled tirelessly, with special recognition going to Vayun, who was named Man of the Match for his outstanding defensive work and composure on the ball under pressure.
