Jusqu'ici tout va bien

Last Friday, our KS5 modern foreign languages students were given an amazing opportunity: we had the chance to attend an analytical study day on The French New Wave movement and its impact on contemporary French cinema at the British Film Institute in London.

The morning consisted of a clip-based lecture, highlighting prominent films of the movement such as,“Les Quatres Cents Coups” and exploring key scenes to discover how heavily they influenced French films of the 21st and late 20th century. The lecture was captivating and offered us a new perspective on the french film industry. There was a plethora of involvement throughout the presentation as we were invited to answer questions and critique scenes and cinematography techniques ourselves.

After lunch, we were lucky enough to see a screening of “La Haine”. The cinema's incredible sound and screening facilities made it a powerful experience to be remembered, allowing us to really resonate with the characters whom we had been studying in our lessons.
