Old Wilsonians triumph in annual fixture

Well done to our alumni who edged a fiercely-contested fixture at Mollison Drive on Saturday morning.

Reinstated by the Development Team after a decade-long absence, the School vs Old Wilsonians Rugby Match is one of several events featuring in our broadening alumni calendar.

We look forward to welcoming Old Wilsonians back to the school again for the next instalment of the fixture in March 2026.

Match Report

On Saturday 15th March, the first XV had the amazing opportunity to play against a side made up of Old Wilsonians with a range of different alumni classes across the pitch. The game began with an incredibly fast try from Toba (Year 13), less than thirty seconds into the first half setting up a powerful momentum for the schoolboys. We continued this streak, with another spectacular display of skill from Ethan (Year 12) scoring shortly after the first try. However, the advantage was short-lived as the alumni team hit back hard, scoring two tries to make the game even.

The rest of the first half was very tight with both teams getting close to scoring on multiple occasions. In the last play of the half, a player from the Old Boys' team broke through our line and scored a try accompanied with a beautiful conversion, which was met with a cheer from both teams as the first successful conversion that day due to some tricky wind conditions.

The alumni started the second half strongly, opening with multiple tries from some strong runners, to which we responded with an amazing try as a result of some skilful footwork from our scrum half - Alex (Year 12). The tries then went back and forth for the remainder of the match, with Toba scoring an impressive hat-trick in the second half of the game. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, the final score ended 39-32 to the Old Wilsonians.

It was a thoroughly intense and entertaining match with members of both teams looking forward to a rematch next year!
