On Wednesday, 24 April 2024, the Wilson’s School Music Department staged their annual highly-anticipated Spring Concert. Featuring players from across the school and styles of music from the classic to the highly contemporary, the programme was packed with highlights for audience and musicians.
With more than 200 students participating, the event was a showcase of the best of Wilson’s, in terms of quality and inclusion. The first half had a stirring beginning from the Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr Burton, opening with Where Eagles Dare; the graceful sounds of Mozart’s Serenade for Winds in B-flat major, K. 361 Gran Partita; the compelling music of the Carnatic Ensemble, directed by Bharanie, performing Veera Raja Veera, and closed with the upbeat and funky Eighties Flashback from the Senior Wind Band, directed by Dr Clayden.
The second half began with the most contemporary pieces on the programme: Dance The Night and I’m Just Ken from the 2023 film Barbie! Our recently-formed folk ensemble Skiaull entertained with their own arrangement of Mike, The Rubber Chicken; the String Sinfonia, directed by Dr Burton, dazzled with Vivaldi’s Concerto for two cellos in G minor, and the concert came to a close with the Odyssey Big Band’s rousing performance of In the Midnight Hour.
Congratulations to all involved: staff, students and parents.
