Intermediate Olympiad

We are delighted that 3 of our students who took part in the Intermediate Olympiads earlier in the year finally received their prizes and medals.

Shreyas (Year 11) took part in the Maclaurin Olympiad and earned a silver medal and book prize. This means he was one of the top 50 students in the country for this category. Pictured are Houting and Abhinav (Year 10) who took part in the Hamilton Olympiad and earned a bronze medal and a book prize. That puts them both in the top 100 participants in the country. All three students also received a Distinction certificate. These achievements are outstanding, considering they had to sit through a two-hour paper and answer a maximum of six very difficult and complex questions—each solution had to be written out as clearly as possible. Mr. Hudson presented their medals and prizes to them before half term.

Junior Maths Challenge

Every student in Years 7 and 8 took part in this challenge in April. Almost every student earned themselves a certificate this year; there were 36 bronzes, 105 silvers and 228 golds (almost identical numbers to last year!). Four students attained full marks, so each will get the credit of being Best in School. We’d like to give our congratulations to all the Key Stage 3 students for these results—their certificates should be with them soon.

The follow-on rounds will both be on Tuesday June 11th. 162 students qualified for the one-hour multiple choice Junior Kangaroo. 19 students qualified for the two-hour Junior Olympiad, which will have a mixture of short answer questions and long answer questions where students will have to explain and justify their answers clearly.
